About the course

Professor Aysha Iqbal Viswamohan, a faculty from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has designed this course on Business English Communication for you to improve your language skills which play a very important role in the current corporate scenario. The course on Business English Communication provides methods for developing English language and communication skills for today's workplace. This course covers in detail, Reading which includes reading simple comprehension passages, reading memos, advertisements, biographies of famous people as well as company profiles. Along with this, the reading techniques are also covered such as scanning and skimming.

Then the course covers Vocabulary, which includes a range of both formal and informal words, and their spellings that will prove to be practically useful while venturing out into the business world. After that, the course also covers Grammar, which includes forms of grammar. Having a good grasp of grammar is key to reading, writing, and vocabulary. You will be taught to understand and locate tenses, forms of verbs, passive and active voices, question tags, prepositions etc. Finally, the course concludes with Writing, which includes a range of topics such as how to write an email in polite, business English as well as informal personal letters, understanding forms, writing structured letters to newspapers, writing resumes, job references, reports, and notes. After the module, you will hence get a comprehensive idea of about writing for a wide variety of contexts.
